PoochPacker Tales ð¾ The story of Kaiah.
Chelle and her wonderful backpacking partner, Holly ð toured Lake Atitlà n in Guatemala recently.
And this happened… ⤵ï¸
“I came across a little puppy with no mother or siblings as soon as I walked off the dock in Jaibalito, Guatamala.
I know stray dogs and puppies are common, but it’s definitely been harder to witness than I could have imagined.
I quickly realised that doing nothing wasn’t an option for me (the key is to do something, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem).
So I looked up the nearest animal rescue service closest to us and came across
Perros Libres Inc which was in Tzununà (the next town over).
With that information, we got up and trekked over an hour to get to the shelter where we were met by Aaron, who set up the shelter two years ago on his own and continually does everything he can to protect the dogs around this lake.
We had to take Kaiah to our accommodation to de-flea and remove the ticks before we brought her back the next day to be seen by the vet, who was coming anyway (crazy right!?)
And even though the shelter is at capacity, Aaron took this little girl on to ensure she had the safety and shelter she needed.
I am beyond grateful to Perros Libres for the constant work they do.”
