The Awesome Funky Felines Story
How AFF Began
It all started with a mid December adoption in 2019. We welcomed a wonderful new feline family member from the local rescue, but we walked away with more than just a cat—we had our eyes opened to the sheer scale of rescue work in the WA Wheatbelt.
Feeling the tug on our heartstrings, we reached out to see how we could help, thinking we could probably foster one kitten.
About two weeks later, the rescue contacted us with a life-changing question: “Can you foster these two?”
We went back, picked up the double-trouble duo (Captain & Ranger), and we haven’t looked back since. That duo was the spark for Awesome Funky Felines Inc.—a journey fuelled by the realization that while you can’t save them all, you can certainly change the world for some ‘funky’ ones.

8 weeks old and spicey.

Scaling Up: From Fosters to First Responders
As our passion grew, so did our odometer. We transitioned into a vital link for the Wheatbelt region, transporting cats between Northam and metropolitan veterinary clincs in Perth. Foatering quickly evolved into a deep-dive of all things feline. To care for the vulnerable, we leveled up our skills—learning about health diet, management and appropriate home care.
Cat Clean Towns in Wheatbelt
Our mission took us further into the heart of the Wheatbelt. We began networking with residents, acting as a bridge to rescue-based cat care. One of our most defining moments was beginning to assist with a large stray population in a remote town. We stepped in to support residents who were facing the harsh reality of widespread colony diseases. It was a grueling task to organise, humanely trappm, seek veterinary treatment for, and socialise the strays, ready for adoption. The success of those early years proved that with enough community collaboration even the most daunting colonies could be reduced.
The Evolution: A Registered Rescue
In October 2021, we launched the Awesome Funky Felines Facebook page to share the highs, the lows, and the quirky faces of our fosters. By 2025, we realized our business partnership (trading as Awesome Funky Felines) had outgrown its “backyard” roots. To better serve the Wheatbelt, we made the leap to incorporate as a formal Association.
