That's one lucky bird! 😲

That’s one lucky bird! 😲

On the return journey from Kulin yesterday we witnessed a baby magpie get hit.

By a truck.

The little ball of fluffy feathers tumbled around and ended up in the middle of the road. 😬

We did a quick turn around and headed back.

But before we reached it, another vehicle drove through (I held my breath 🫣).

Thankfully the bird kept still and the driver cleverly missed it. 👏

Then it was on the move, hopping off the road in a daze.

I heard the parents warbling and the little one was alert and listening.

Colin grabbed some supplies.

I carefully draped a towel over the bird and placed it in a carrier.

Then told the parents that their baby needed to be checked out and we’d bring him back as soon as we could. 🤞

I wasn’t sure at that stage how injured he was, but I was hoping for the best.

It was after dark by the time we got home and I hadn’t received confirmation of which carer could take him yet.

So we gave him water, put a cover over the carrier and placed it in the only animal free room we have…

The toilet. 😂

I quietly checked up on him during the night and he seemed to be quite active by morning.

👌

Huge thank you to local Wildlife Carer,

Trinette Evans, for taking this little darling in today. ✨🙏✨

And on another note…

Sticky beak Gizmo snuck in while I wasn’t looking. 🤨

He was rather TOO interested in the magpie!

Cats and birds usually don’t mix well.

Which is why we encourage keeping cats locked up and closely supervised. âœ

Exhibit A – Gizmo! ðŸ˜
