Farewell Latte, my friend 🫶

Sad news to share sorry folks 🥺

Latte’s retrobulbar mass was an aggressive, malignant tumour.

She was still eating and fairly active during the week, enjoying brushes and scritches.

But her nasal congestion gradually increased at rest.

Even though she was on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories.

On Thursday she stopped eating. 😬

We gave her subq fluids to ensure she was hydrated.

Syringe fed her a little Recovery food along with her medications.

And used flow-by oxygen to ensure she was breathing as comfortably as possible.

Thursday night I gave her extra brushes and she rolled around, enjoying the attention (and the Gabapentin lol) 🤭

But we knew she needed veterinary attention sooner rather than later.

So I want to say a *HUGE* thankyou to

Heartlands Veterinary Hospitals…

fitting us in for an early morning Friday appointment even though they were busy. 🙏

The news of Latte’s prognosis didn’t come as a huge surprise by that point.

But it’s never easy to learn that the kitten you rescued four years ago from an inbred and sickly colony needed to cross the rainbow bridge. 🥺

I’ll miss her floofy tail floating through the house.

With its wispy light colours at the very tip.

🤗

She was in one of the first groups of stray cats from Kulin.

Back when the health of the colonies was simply awful!

So many tested positive to FIV and FeLV.

Some passed from FIP.

And nearly all had various cat flu symptoms. 😞

But I’m grateful Latte had four years of good life.

She outgrew her various kitten illnesses, had plenty of cat friends, loved her food and enjoyed the outdoor enclosure.

Photos show a baby Latte, with her snotty nose and gorgeous floof. 😍

And Latte at the vet for her last visit.

She was more visibly struggling with her breathing by this point and it was time for a quiet and peaceful passing. 💖

Which is exactly what she received.

Thank you to those who contributed to funding her vet visit and medications.

We are extremely grateful 😽

The euthanasia cost was $210.

If anyone wishes to contribute, it would be extremely appreciated!

We usually pay these costs ourselves, but it does make our weekly food and litter bill (around $300) harder to manage.
