Every cat is worth the effort… ð¥
Some snippets from Friday’s rural trapping trip.
Managing a colony so far from home has its challenges.
We can only stay for a night.
So everything has to be lined up and timed right. ð¤
We’re so grateful to have an amazing resident caretaker.
ððð
And community members who work with us for the benefit of the cats. ð«¶
We’ve found that using a variety of humane trap styles and sizes works best.
Double door traps in particular can be very effective for savvy, streetwise cats (though they can also have temperamental trigger plates ð).
With a few tinkering modifications, the traps that can (sometimes) be dangerous for kitty tails can be made safe. ð
Perhaps the funniest (and most frustrating) part is when the kittens are so small and light, they don’t trigger any traps at all! ð
That’s when a drop trap and Humaniac net from Animal Care Equipment & Services (Australia) Pty Ltd come in very handy.
Hats off to Colin for hand netting no less than 5 kittens during the night! ð
Check out the previous post for more info about this trip. ð
