Fred, Fredzy, Frediness, Fredinator… 😍

When he’s awake it’s all systems go, go, GO!

🏎️💨💨💨

When he’s asleep it’s time to play with the cuteness lol 🤗

Fred came to us as a kitten.

Underdeveloped, unable to use his hind legs properly (they were often curled around his head) plus urinary and faecally incontinent.

He was treated for a UTI and then neutered.

And it was AFF followers who made this possible! 🩶🤍🩶

We didn’t have the funds for extensive testing to determine the exact cause of his issues, but the vet’s best guess was a neurological condition caused by genetics or a contagion (some illnesses can cause neurological side effects in utero or shortly after).

There is also the possibility that nerve damage was sustained during his difficult birth.

Young mum cats having babies is not ideal under the best of circumstances. 🥺

A wait and watch approach was taken and he eventually grew, put on weight, adjusted further to his mobility issues…

And became faecally continent on a raw diet. 👏

He still has urinary incontinence though and we expect that will continue for life.

Good thing we love the ‘funky’ ones hey?

💁

Managing his incontinence has been a challenging journey.

Especially since he decided one day that diapers weren’t for ‘big boys’ 😾 haha

We have a range of ways to keep both him and us as pee free as possible.

Which includes no carpets or couches.

And we just accept that mops were made for the puddles in life. 🤷

Which means that Fred…

* Hoons around the house and cat enclosure.

* Gets into EVERYTHING despite his back leg weakness and wonkiness.

* Launches up onto high surfaces (though he often fails to ‘land it’ and has to scramble to pull himself up).

* And isn’t intimidated by cats twice his size (he’ll happily wrestle anyone). 🤦

We do need to keep a close eye on him due to the fact that his differences make him more susceptible to injuries and infections.

But so far so good! 😻

Though I would like to buy a few cat onesies to aid in protecting his ‘boy bits’ from some of the more daring stunts he attempts. 😬

Because he can’t feel much in his rear end, he isn’t as cautious as he needs to be.
