Noirette doesn’t have FeLV!

Oh. My. Gosh! That’s a relief and a half!

Black cat Noirette tested positive in a routine snaptest during her spay last week.

But after a PCR for confirmation, turns out the snaptest was a FALSE positive.

Phew!

What’s it all about?

Well FeLV (Feline Leukaemia) is a nasty and contagious cat virus that can cause all sorts of health issues and early passing.

Especially in kittens 🥺

It’s passed from one stray cat to another through mutual grooming, eating from shared plates, breeding, fighting and nursing.

And if a pet cat is outside and comes into contact with the virus, they can get sick too!

Another great reason to keep cats contained and safe.

We’ve cared for a lot of FeLV positive cats over the last 5 years, and I can tell you, it’s horrid! 😭

BUT Noirette is in the CLEAR!

Time to celebrate!! 🥂

The news…

We’ve FINALLY put in our application to become Incorporated! 🤩

Crikey, we slaved over the ‘Objectives’ 😵‍💫

Wanted to get our goals just right.

Our role in helping the Wheatbelt strays needed to be realistic.

Achievable, sustainable and collaborative.

🫶

Apparently it will be 8 weeks before we know if our application is successful.

Once Incorporated, we can then apply for ‘Not for Profit’ status.

And THEN we can apply to be a DGR.

Deductable Gift Recipient.

Can you help us reach this milestone? 💪

The application for Incorporation cost $198

That’s a lot of money, especially when we are also fundraising for Roger and Noirette.

Just arrived from Wheatbelt north, Tabitha is small and so very, very sweet! 🥰

Her foster family have shown her love in abundance 😻

What a lucky stray she is!

No kitten mills in this little lady’s future…

She’s headed for a life of health and home.

Immense gratitude to supporters, A and M, for outfitting the Rescue Ranger with FIVE brand new tyres!! 🤩

We can easily clock up around 450kms a week in rescue transport 😬

(That doesn’t include remote trapping trips)

So keeping our vehicle running is a priority!

Roger’s on a roll… 👌

Though not initially happy about it, this ginger tom has now been new-tered! 👏

His ball bouncing days are over 😄

We’re keeping a close eye on Roger as he recovers, due to being positive for FIV.

Remember the older ginger lads, Basil and Pilot?

They were related to Roger and both went downhill suddenly in health earlier this year, requiring euthanasia 😔

We’re hoping that Roger’s story will be different but inbreeding and contagious diseases are SERIOUS problems that stray cats face 😬

The feral life isn’t a bed of roses!

Sure, she still doesn’t do pats.

There are other cats for that.

Arya was a Narrogin SCAN feral.

She’s allergic to sutures, has had 2 hernia repairs and lives with a slight rear end mobility challenge.

She’s eye candy galore though and has a strange squawky meow she only uses when she wants a fish treat ðŸ˜

She’s funky cute, so she gets what she wants of course 🤷

A fairly standard vet run…

Toms, queens, kittens and sickies, all in need of attention at Forrestdale Veterinary Hospital ❤️‍🩹

But wait… ☝️

AFF foster Noirette tagged along this week for her spay.

We routinely snap test for FIV and FeLV also.

And to our shock⚡she tested positive for FeLV! 😱

Feline Leukaemia Virus

It’s been a LONG time since we had a Kulin

cat test positive for FeLV.

A few years ago it was way too common,

but reducing the stray cat population has also reduced the contagious diseases.

What now?!? 😬

Well, there IS a chance the test showed a false positive. It happens.

So we’ve requested a PCR.

A blood test to find out if she really is positive.

It’s going to make the usual vet costs higher of course.

Twice the price in fact 😦

So instead of 200, we need to raise $400 for Noirette’s vet fees.

Holy black cat! 🌚

That’s a heck of a lot of dough!
