    Last night we walked where the

    Mortlock and Avon rivers intersect in Northam.

    A little 🤏 chilly but wonderfully fresh!

    Taran runs hot so he rarely wears a jacket.

    We walk the day, the night and anytime we can 🤗

    Just LOVE a good walk!

    And so does our boy.

    But I can’t walk passed trash without picking it up 🗑️

    We’re passionate about cleaning the Wheatbelt!

    And searching for Poppy, the missing Chihuahua, has become the norm also now.

    Where in the world IS that little dog? ⁉️

    There’s a sign of her or her pink harness and collar SOMEwhere around.

    Please help search! 🙏

    Baby Gizmo… 😍

    A story of kittens in a box.

    And the REAL cost of a cat.

    He’s 5 years old now.

    But this is where it all started…

    I saw a cardboard box of very young kittens being sold online in the Wheatbelt.

    They were around 6 weeks old I think.

    All ginger boys.

    The smallest was the one that caught my eye.

    He was tiny… Too tiny 🥺

    And I knew we had to help him.

    So we drove, we bought him and we talked to his human family about the importance of sterilisation.

    For both mumma and her litter.

    Mumma was very young. And had stopped nursing the kittens as it was too much for her health.

    A common problem unfortunately.

    Kittens having kittens and then not being able to care for them 😔

    But there was hope in this story.

    Because we were all in agreement about spay and neuter 🤝

    We brought Gizmo home and immediately he had health issues.

    Diarrhoea! 😬

    Not surprising really, given his age.

    But it was a BAD case and could have been fatal if not treated promptly.

    Thankfully he responded quickly to veterinary intervention.

    Which cost us $400 💲

    That’s a price that many people are not expecting when they take home a free or cheap kitten!

    Then came the cost of neuter.

    Vaccination.

    Microchipping.

    😳

    Gizmo grew up surrounded by foster cats and kittens.

    I’ll have to dig up some footage to show how cute he really was 😘

    I think we always knew he’d be a foster fail.

    And I can’t remember the number of cats he’s helped us to socialise.

    The number of kittens he’s helped care for 🤗

    It’s adorable seeing him clean and comfort them.

    His story is about being prepared for the illnesses and expenses that come with ‘kittens in a box’.

    They aren’t really cheap are they?

    They are a lifetime commitment of expenses.

    And those expenses can start sooner than we think!

    Noirette hangs out with Ginger Mumma’s crew.

    She’s a feral-icious void 😘

    The last of the first Kulin colony we began working on 4 odd years ago.

    Took us a-g-e-s to trap the savvy lil miss!

    And she was ooper duper pregnant when we finally got her with the drop trap.

    Had her litter 2 days later in care.

    Firefly, Dragonfly, Mayfly… and Angelfly 🌈

    She is also the Mumma of Wimbles and Wembles.

    And no doubt other stray kittens we have trapped along the way.

    These cats all have backstories…

    And hers is a story of hope.

    Because we didn’t know if we’d ever be able to save her from the cycle of suffering.

    What’s next for Noirette?

    A ✨Spay-Day✨ 💁

    She’s our only semi-feral girl in need of a vet appointment now.

    So… Let’s do that AFF-ites 🖤

    Let’s make her last litter her LAST litter!

    Ex-Baby making *machines*!

    Bonded spicy darlings, they are often on my chair in the enclosure.

    Just chilling. Together.

    Mumma is elderly and retirement came just in the nick of time 🤏

    Both FIV+, they won’t have to worry about another litter of littlies ever again.

    Which must be a relief as their self made colony had included over 20 odd kittens in December 2023… 😬

    That they were helping to feed as the younger mumma’s (like Cali) were struggling.

    Poor Mumma Ginger was thin and exhausted when she finally came into care 😔 But still feisty as!

    Tuumi is now a bit of a chunky lass and Mumma now has a long coat, good weight and is recovering from her spay surgery.

    Will they ever be adopted?

    Probably not tbh. That’s just the reality of it.

    But I’m happy to share my chair with them.

    For as long as they need it.

    Foster Paisley lovin’ on our boy, Mogwai 🥹

    She was an early intake from Kulin.

    At the same time as Latte actually.

    We were only able to trap her because she was so attached to little Latte as a kitten.

    Fast forward… and she never took to being patted or picked up.

    She’s a lass you love from a distance.

    But still wants space on your bed of course lol.

    Thankfully she became fast friends with other cats over time and her connection to Latte seemed to disappear. 🤷

    So when Latte passed from cancer 😞 Paisley wasn’t left bereft.

    I was very grateful about that.

    Another of our fosters from SCAN.

    He was seriously feral as beep when we met him 😅 🫢

    The type of cat that when moved to a new home reverts to default mode. 🤦

    And all the great socialisation progress that’s been made goes flying out the window.

    Yeeeeet lol.

    Getting him neutered was a big step towards friendly.

    But OH MY, I had my work cut out for me!

    He wasn’t a Ned by any means.

    But he would have given Zeb a run for his money in the feral department. 😆

    He must be at *least* 9 now I think?

    Possibly older.

    FIV+

    Up there on the cattitude scale.

    I have to help keep his eyes n ears clean.

    And provide daily ‘smooch-me-just-right’ sessions. 🤨

    But he’s bonded to me like Tarzan’s Grip super glue.

    And isn’t exactly ‘highly adoptable’.

    So this is his ‘fostered forever’ home…

    He’s funky as, so fits the criteria. 💁

    We came across this deceased soul on the left side of Great Eastern Highway (approaching Northam) yesterday. 🥺

    Between Trimmer and Fox Roads.

    No collar, no microchip detected.

    Gender unknown.

    Rangers will be notified on Monday (after hours is for emergencies only).

    Veterinary clinics were closed.

    If this beautiful cat is someone’s furbaby, we extend our deepest sympathies. 💔

    Passing would have been instantaneous.

    We carefully moved the remains further from the edge of the highway.

    Please feel free to get in touch if more information is required.

    Whether owned or stray, we felt sorrow.

    As all cats deserve respect…
