Cardboard rolls are SO much fun (for simple people like me 😂)

The Bin Babies have had their vet work done and are at SAVA – Saving Avon Valley Animals looking for forever homes. 🤗

We have more kittens needing to move on to adoption (like the Bush Babies).

And people are asking us to do a trapping trip to collect more strays (from 3 separate locations) 😬

But we can’t until we have the space.

🤷

So every adoption is one step closer to another cat being rescued.

Granny ‘Mumma Ginger’ Update… 🧡

(Day after spay)

Surgery can be hard on the elderly strays with FIV. 🥺

But Mumma is coping quite well.

She was still feeling the effects of anaesthesia in this reel, so I was able to get a little ‘hands on’ and check her incision site.

(Mumma is an independent lass who has opinions about people and prodding lol) 😾

Her body is working hard to heal and adjust.

She has a goopy eye as a result of her FIV issues, which I will keep clean and seek veterinary assistance for if symptoms don’t improve. 👩‍⚕️

But on the plus side, she’s active, eating, eliminating… 👌

And VERY happy to be back with her family of female offspring. 💞

Mumma’s veterinary costs are expected to come in at around the same as Spicette’s…

$250 for Spay and Snap test.

We’re fundraising now for these costs also.

Two spays needing full sponsorship at the same time! 🫨

There’s a reason for that.

We’re on a tight time schedule to get all of our unsterilised and ‘less adoptable’ fosters to the vet before kitten season begins again in September.

🫣 😧

Of course, every other rescue and carer in Perth is trying to do the same thing. 😬

And there are only a limited number of veterinary partners available.

We have 6 adult sterilizations pending…

It’s less than other years (👏) but still a challenge.

She’s over her flu and flirting with Fred! ðŸ˜

Thank you AFF supporters for helping us with her veterinary medication. 🫶

Spicette is our only foster from the

2023 / 2024 kitten season that didn’t get adopted through a registered rescue.

Because…

She can be a spicy lass lol. 😼

(Mumma Ginger’s great granddaughter).

Though not HALF as spicy as she used to be!

I remember when we first trapped her in Kulin. She was tiny. 🥹

But was a force to be reckoned with!

After escaping the trap into the colony caretaker’s laundry room, she bit me on the finger as I tried to catch her. 😬

I rarely get bitten, so it’s not something I’ll easily forget. 😄

She’s rather keen for affection lol. 😽

Now that kitten season is over and there are more vet spots available, her spay is a priority!

But we aren’t rolling in cash (unfortunately)

We buy second hand enclosures (well used) and our floors aren’t professionally polished.

So Spicette needs her spay to be sponsered please! 🙏

That’s why I blog. To raise support.

An estimate of the cost for her spay and

FIV / FeLV test is about $250.

This elderly lady is a legend!

Matriarch of Kulin, descended from Queen Kulette herself 👑

She’s had so many litters I wouldn’t dare hazard a guess as to how many 😵‍💫

When we *finally* trapped her (after years of trying) she was surrounded by nearly 30 kittens, grandkittens and great-grandkittens.

😳

And now she’s spayed.

The end of an era.

And the beginning of her official retirement.

She did test positive to FIV (which we suspected).

And she does need a professional dental clean! 🪥

(More on that to come)

But for now, we’re homeward bound (after we drop off some kittens to Forestdale Vet).
