Our backyard isn’t as horse proof as we’d like.

On the plus side, the grass does need a mow.

With kitten season underway, it’s high time to ensure ALL pet cats are sterilised. 💯

We have a male cat who regularly visits our property during summer, calling and searching for a mate. 📣

It’s not his fault.

He’s just doing what his instincts tell

him to do. 👈

Though when he sits outside our window at night and calls his heart out, I do rather wish I had industrial strength earplugs. 😉

Which is one reason why sterilisation is just as important for male cats as it is for female cats. âœ

Another reason is that male cats make kittens too! 🤔

This gorgeous specimen has been chilling with us for awhile now.

Originally thought to be a girl, we’re now wondering if Arya may actually be Arka. 🤷

(I’m notoriously bad at determining these things lol).

Arya was initially as shut down as a cat can possibly be.

In fact, I’m pretty sure she tried not to breath in our presence. 😨

But these days she’s ready for some slow introductions.

Latte… Cheeky, playful, smoochy AND social. 🤩

She’s the least sassy tortie I’ve ever seen!

Sometimes she snoozes like a couch potato 💤

And sometimes she takes off like a rocket. 🚀

Totally cat and dog social.❕

Can be carried and ‘smooshed’ like a baby.❕

And completes room zoomies in record time.❕

She’s a social, smooshy zoomer. 💗🤗💗

Due to her rough start in life, Latte needs a very high quality wet diet and a warm, stress free home. âœ

She was exposed to cat flu as a tiny kitten. 🥺

And because her mumma, Chocolate, was a country stray, Latte didn’t have access to veterinary care until she was older. 🫶

This has led to Latte having lingering sinusitis symptoms, which come and go. 🤧

It basically means that some weeks of the year she sneezes and may need her petite silky nose wiped clean. 💗

It also means that she may sometimes need a quick trip to the vet for a course of antibiotics to help clear up any mild bacterial infections which arise in her nose or throat. 👈

Latte’s lungs are healthy though… âœ

And her immune system is continuing to strengthen.

With an appropriate diet and ongoing immune boosting supplements (like Echinacea), we expect Latte to continue to be a fun-loving floof ball of energy. ⚡

💛 Cardboard stash! 💛

Grateful shout out to my amazing Mum and the residents and staff of Walridge Village, who collect used cardboard for us. 💞

When cut to size, they make great disposable ‘plates’ for feeding rescue cats. âœ

And are then used as compost for our vegetable garden. 🍅🥕🫑

There are so many ways to contribute

to rescue. 👈

By reaching out to local organisations, everyone can find a way to do their part.

Whether 8 or 80! 😻

Zeus is a super hand sensitive kitty! ⚡🖐️⚡

His skin jumps before he does, even when the ends of his hairs are barely touched. 😬

And his coat ‘ripples’ in a wave of anxious antipication.

How to make headway with a cat whose nerves are wired on the tight side? 🤔

Well, rewiring is an option. âœ

One way to do that is to find a spot where they are less reactive and start there.

To my surprise, this boy’s spot is his belly. 😲

Yep. Who would have thought? 🤷

If I start with slow, mini belly massages, he stays put long enough for me to begin to move to other areas.

It’s his ‘safe touch’ zone. 🛟

A secure basecamp, which can slowly be enlarged.

And a basecamp that can regularly be returned to when he becomes overstimulated. 👌

So for now…

👉 ‘no belly rub, no body rub’. 👈
