There’s always (at least) one in every house… 😳

Arya is a longtermer. ⌛

A SCAN cat we’ve been fostering for a long time.

She’s not cuddly.

She’s very quirky.

And she talks with her teeth. 🥴

She also has a heart on one side and Australia on the other. ❤️ 🇦🇺

(Depending on her position and how much imagination one has lol).

We’ve been lucky this year to secure more appointments with veterinary partners so that cats like Arya can be sterilised, treated for medical issues and have her teeth cleaned.

Arya’s journey has been a little ‘bumpy’, so she’s needed extra assistance and recuperation time. ❤️‍🩹

It’s suspected she had a traumatic event as a stray kitten, causing abdominal injuries and a hernia. 😟

Though due to being a rather skinny stray initially, it was awhile before this became apparent.

So during her spay, the hernia was also operated on.

However, there was a suspicion that a second hernia existed, located just above the first. 😬

Due to excessive swelling, this was difficult to determine.

So the plan was made to watch and wait, allowing recovery and reassessment.

During the recovery, Arya suddenly developed an abscess at the surgical site, which discharged (burst) leaving an open wound. 🫨

So off to the vet again we go… 🚗💨💨

And soon we’re home with medication and a huge sigh of relief! 😮‍💨

Then Arya was again operated on, to confirm and correct the second hernia. âœ

But…

Another abscess began to develop during recovery 😱

(though a little more slowly this time, phew!)

We again sought veterinary help, where it was decided that she most likely was allergic to the internal sutures. 😲

It was definately a first for us. 🤷

Through all the drama, Arya has continued to develop in confidence and character. 🤗

Oh… and booty displays.

She’s got that manoeuvre down! 🤣

PoochPacker Tales 🐾 The story of Cassie.

Our backpacking daughter, Chelle, met another sweet soul in need during her stay in Sumpango, Guatamala.

“This is Cassie, another lil pup I found walking across the dirt path on my way to Animal Aware where I’m currently volunteering.

She has fleas and crusty eyes but otherwise is looking farily good.

She’s eating and drinking and is on her way to the vet today which I’m thrilled about.

I am so thankyou to Animal Aware who is beyond their capacity with puppies at the moment but agreed to take her on anyways.

She reminds me a lot of little Kaiah who is doing well and is making friends back in Lake Atitlan.

Too many cute animals and so little time.”

So when a spot became available in our socialisation room (aka lounge), we decided it was high time this SCAN kitty got to know us a little better.

Kind of tricky though, as she hops in her basket when I’m 3 metres away. 🤔

I usually rely on a cat’s eyes to tell me a lot of information about which approach to take.

But Morgan hides her eyes along with everything else.

🤷

So I got a little creative and used my phone to catch some glimpses. 👁️

Turns out it was a fun experiment. 😃
