AFF Neuter Bonanza! 😃

13 lucky lads lost their ‘trouble nuggets’ last weekend at Heartlands Veterinary Hospitals York. 🎉

We are immensely grateful to all the veterinary staff and students who dedicated their time and expertise to ensure these boys have a chance of adoption! 🥇

Rambo is off on another adventure today…

He’s showing off his best (floofy tail) side at the Cat Haven WA Easter event. 🤩

Here’s hoping his forever family finds him! 🤞

And his lucky streak continues to

‘happily ever after’. 🍀

We don’t have any (Easter) bunnies… 🐰

But we do foster a Foxy… 🦊

She’s feeling SO much better now, thanks to the Pro-Kolin! 👍

This reel shows the first time Foxy had her meds.

There are many ways to approach medicating a cat.

But when they won’t accept meds in their food, aren’t interested in eating or won’t lick anything off their paws or your fingers… 🤨

Then you just have to take the ‘scenic route’.

And be prepared to spend as long as it takes.

🕰️

I’ve found that cats are a little like horses in that respect.

Approach them in a relaxed manner, as if you have all the time in the world, and you set yourself (and your cat) up for success. 👌

I’ve also found that taking my time with the first medication session often means the second goes a little easier…

And the third easier still. 🤗

Plenty of pats, distraction and whatever rewards your cat responds to can help make the process a little less intimidating for everyone. 🤏

But when all is said and done, at some point you still have to get some strange tasting stuff into a wriggly, squirmy cat. 🤔

Right?

It can be pretty daunting. 😬

And kind of… awkward lol.

So I think in terms of teamwork.

The cat and I are a team. 🤝

I don’t (really) want to be doing something a cat doesn’t like.

And the cat doesn’t (really) want to take the medication.

BUT… There is something that both the cat and I DO really want.

And that something is health and wellbeing. ❤️‍🩹

So I actually told Foxy what the medication was.

How it would help her to feel better.

And that we are partners. 🫶

I talked about my respect and concern for her.

I sang and hummed, massaged and shared space.

Of course, Foxy didn’t understand the words.

But she did understand the language.

My body language and intent. 💕

And once the medicating was done, I spent time reinforcing our relationship.

It was an opportunity to develop trust and spend quality time together. 😍

Choco the Tux… 🍫

So named because he turned out NOT to be Sweet Chocolate, the elusive Kulin mumma we were after. *sigh*

However, any stray (off the streets) is a good stray, right? 👍

Spooky, shy and shut down, Choco is

s.l.o.w.l.y coming around. 👌

He’s now been neutered and tested positive for FIV. ➕

What does that mean for Choco? 🤔

That his chances of adoption go down ⬇️ unfortunately. 😢

Which is SO sad, as FIV really isn’t ‘all that’.

Choco is young and the FIV isn’t causing him serious issues…

(Just a little eye discharge when he’s stressed).

He has his WHOLE life ahead of him. 🤗

He’s also a gentle lad who would rather hide than hurt anyone. 💗

One day soon a penny will drop, he’ll hand in his feral card and then we’ll be looking for someone willing to open their heart and home to a gorgeous Awesome Funky FIV Cat! 🤩

Flashback Update…

Sweet Wimbles, sister of Wembles, has improved greatly in health and confidence in the last week.

🎉

I came across these older photos and it made me realise that despite still having some nasal discharge 🤧 she’s now a lot brighter and bubblier. 🫧

Though not as outgoing as her ‘life of the party’ brother, Wimbles is a darling who wants to love. 💞

Until it’s medication time… Then out come the panther sized ‘murder mittens’ lol.

She’s now graduated to a larger crate.

And has worked out what ping pongs balls are all about! 😃

This current group of Kulin kittens has kept me busy!

When it comes to colony cats, being ‘born free’ is not all it’s cracked up to be. 😔

Kittens galore… ☺️

Aren’t they just the sweetest? 🍭

These babies won’t know the hardships their parents faced.

And that’s what #EndingTheCycleOfSuffering is all about. 👌

Yes, kittens CAN and SHOULD be sterilised.

It’s safe, sensible and sooo necessary! âœ

These tiny tots are genetically programmed to start reproducing in around 8 more weeks!! 😱

And they’ll become more difficult to contain the closer they get to that time. ⏰

Which means there’s no time like NOW to sterilise!

Don’t worry, kittens can bounce back a lot quicker than adults after a spay or neuter, so there really isn’t any reason not to sterilise. 🤷

‘Vet Runs’ are a huge part of cat rescue. 🚕

Every week there are cats and kittens needing to get from their foster homes to their sterilisation appointments.

And back again. 🔄

It’s just another way that we can all pitch in to help get cats off the streets…

And into homes. 💞

Many (wheels) make light work… 😻

So if you have a car and a couple of hours spare, please consider becoming either a regular, or an emergency, cat transporter. 🤗
