From Rambo to Bambi… Well, almost. 😉

A quick study, Rambo now knows what gentle looks like to people. 💞

He’s new to the world of smoochies, but is gaining confidence every day. ↗️

Cat friendly and not too bothered by savvy dogs, Rambo will be neutered this month so he’s ready for his forever home! 🤩

Beep Beep Kitty Uber… 🚕

Yesterday we drove to Bedfordale to collect 3 Street Cat Appeal Narrogin SCAN rescue cats.

*Huge* thank you to Alison for transporting these furbabies from Narrogin! 🫶💞

The pretty calico girl and the chunky tabby lad will be heading off to other foster carers in the next few days. ➡️

One cat band, Paco, will be playing here tonight (and every night) since he got his new scratcher toy.

🤩

Shout out to Jing and Tubbs for donating the toy! 🧡

It was an instant hit.💥

Gizmo (who thinks every toy is his toy) made a valiant attempt at climbing into Paco’s crate to have a turn…

But Paco wasn’t in a mood to share the limelight.

😄

If you have toys that your cats aren’t interested in, you may want to consider donating them to foster cats.

I’m always on the lookout for more, as environment enrichment is so important. 💯

Especially for the cats who aren’t confident enough yet to leave the security of their crate comfort zone.

As you can imagine, toys don’t last forever when they get the kitty claw treatment. 😬

I have ‘balls’ of scrunched paper and cardboard loo rolls cut into shapes…

They only last a day or two before they are shredded, soaked in the water bowl or buried in the litter tray.

🤣

Please let me know if you have any ideas for safe, fun toys that can be cheaply made out of craft supplies or household items. 🙏

Mistletoe art update…

The little lady is taking shape. 🤏

I had to temporarily darken my traced reference lines as they were so faint, they didn’t show up in the photo lol. 🤦

When it comes to reference marks…

Less is more, light is best and rulers are very handy for double checking proportions. 📏

The sketch doesn’t have to completely line up with the reference photo at this stage…

But the closer it is now, the less work there is later. 👍

I usually begin with the eyes as I want them to hold the focus of the drawing.

Everything else creates a framework and context for the eyes. 👀

Unfortunately, my Pebeo drawing gum pen had set rock solid lol, so I was unable to use it to block out the light reflection.

But I made do with what I had.

And ordered more Pebeo! 😄

Then it was time for the first of several light and loose graphite ‘undercoats’.

With blending and pulling up (erasing) in between each coat. ✏️

And continuing the constant process of

‘morph and modify’, so that the end result reflects the reference photo as much as I would like it to. 🤞

Once all the light graphite layers are down, it’s time to start the real drawing imo.

Building up the layers creates a foundation for the carbon to ‘sit on’.

The more layers…

The more realistic the end result will be. âœ

But in order to avoid ‘muddying’ the layers, there must be a balance between laying down, blending and lifting up. 👈

Just before transitioning into carbon, I begin to blacken the blackest blacks 🖤

and whiten the whitest whites. 🤍

This is the point where a drawing starts to take flight. ✈️

It’s been many years since I made time to draw…

But I’ve decided to get back into it! 🤩

I still have a lot to learn…

And a lot of practise to do…

But here goes… 🤞

This sweet SAFE Avon Valley kitty from Kellerberrin is my current subject.

Hello Mistletoe! 👋

She came into Freedom’s care just before Christmas…

With 11 others from her colony! 😲

Then in January, another 13 arrived!! 😱

That’s what happens when colonies get out of control. 😬

Not surprisingly, Mistletoe was very underweight initially. 😢

But she’s a healthy girl now, somewhat on the shy side… who loves to be tenderly stroked while she’s dining. 😽

I began the drawing by asking Colin to print out a black and white A4 copy of the photo.

(He speaks ‘printer’ better than I do. 😉)

Then I chose which paper best suited the mediums I was planning on using…

Graphite and my all time favourite, carbon!

My Huon lightbox allows me to faintly pencil in the main ‘landmarks’, meaning I spend less time on getting proportions accurate, and more time on what I enjoy most…

Everything else haha. 👍

Teddy Bear has been keeping me company, of course.

And often bumps the pencil, causing some interesting marks on Mistletoe’s face lol. 😁

I’ll be sharing my progress over the next week…

And the finished drawing will be available to download for $2 through SAFE Avon Valley.

All proceeds will go towards the care of Mistletoe and her mates. 💯

Eric is nearly ready for his forever ðŸ

🖤🤍🖤

He’s a clever lad who knows that phones need to be headbutted to make them work. 😂

This handsome tux has taken a long time to thaw.

But now that he has, he can become a little overwhelmed by his own enthusiastic ‘feelies’.

He gets worked up every now and then…

Which startles him. 😮

Overstimulation can cause a cat to play rough and

love rougher. ⚡

But Eric really wants to learn. âœ

So he’s been working hard on figuring it all out.

Like Zeb and Zeus, Eric is ready to interact with us in a larger space.

Only problem is…

We don’t have unlimited space lol. 🤔

So one of our current projects is creating more areas within our house to continue the socialisation process. 😻

Meanwhile, we ‘hang out’ with the cats in crates.

And I’m often head and shoulders in there with them haha.

Paco is just as keen for his turn of my undivided attention. 🧡

An unusual ‘ticked ginger’, he has also come a very long way.

Earlier reels show him hunkered in his litter box, afraid of his own shadow. 🙀

But these days he’s full of jumping love beans!

And just wants to connect. All the time. 😄

The only thing holding Paco back from being adoption ready just yet is moderate gingivitis.

Any potential adopters will need to be willing to take onboard that aspect of his care. ❤️‍🩹

They could be in their own homes very soon…

We just need to find the perfect fit for them. 👌
