And once they are de-wormed, all that nutrition goes into growth and health. âï¸
I mix Royal Canin Recovery with Wombaroo kitten milk replacement, cooked chicken meat, Pro-Kolin Plus and added water for the first few days to minimise gastrointestinal troubles and increase hydration and easily digestible nutrients. ð
(Pooping problems can happen due to food transitions, intestinal worms and the stress of being trapped and transported).
This is fed to both the underweight Mummas and their weaning kittens before very slowly transitioning them all to a balanced raw diet. ð»

And still keep our fingers intact. Haha. ð

The torti / calico girl is Mumma’s favourite.
I haven’t come up with a name yet.
Any ideas? â
We baited the drop trap for awhile with torti mumma in a carrier.
Hoping to coax more kittens out from under the house.
Unfortunately we weren’t successful. ð
There are still 3 kittens left.
They are being cared for and a close eye kept on them.
Two gingers and a brindle torti.
ð§¡ð¤ð§¡
The caretaker is trying to gain their confidence to make it easier to bring them into care and reunite them with their family. ð

The torti
The legendary matriarch who evaded us for 2 years was finally, FINALLY caught last week! ð«¨
The day after my birthday…
So yeah, best birthday gift, right? ð
This lass takes street wise and trap savvy to a whole new level. ⤴ï¸
She’s obsessive about caring for and protecting her family… O.B.S.E.S.S.I.V.E!
ALL her family… adult daughters included.
Which is why we weren’t able to trap them last season when they were still kittens. ð®âð¨
We knew we were up against the smartest and most determined cat we’d met.
But we also knew that she was starving.
And taxed to the limit..
ð
Keeping five adult daughters and at least 19 kittens and grandkittens safe and fed had worn her to the point of total exhaustion!
Although the caretaker feeds morning and night, other stray and owned cats (and dogs) compete for the food…
So Mumma Ginger always hung back and let the younger ones eat, while trying to keep others away.
Then she would snatch just a few bites for herself.
ð¥¹
Very early in the morning, when she and her bonded torti daughter, who never leaves her side, made an unprecedented mad dash into the house for food, we didn’t waste the opportunity. ð¨
They were frantic to escape of course, but were smoothly herded into a spare room and secured with the Humaniac net.
Phew! Just PHEW!! ð«
(Colin is a pro with that net these days! ð)
From there we transfered her carefully from the net to the transfer cage and then to a feral cat carrier. ð¶âð«ï¸
What an epic tale! The end of an era.
And what a marvellous end! ð
Mumma Ginger is doing well in care, with her torti daughter and four of the kittens.
She was underweight, dehydrated and shut down initially. ð¿
But has realised that there is now an abundance of food…
Last week’s efforts meant that 8 kittens and 4 cats left behind a life lived UNDER a house, and started the journey towards a life lived IN a house. ð¡
They don’t come off the streets in pristine condition though.
They’re underweight, riddled with fleas and worms, battling cat flu, diarrhoea and plenty of fear. ð¥º
It’s always a long night when trapping.
Keeping skittish kittens fed, warm and clean while dodging sharp little claws makes for some interesting times.
