Back when Trucker was a BAY-BE 😘

Well, more of a baby than he is now. ðŸ˜

I seem to be telling Trucker’s story in reverse.

🤷

He’s always been about the food.

His and everyone else’s food lol.

We went through the usual routine of flea and intestinal worm treatment.

And Trucker learnt treatment meant food.

Then more food.

Every. Day. 🫨

He’ll still try to eat from ALL the plates if given a chance 😆

But these days he’s a BIG BOY and eats his own food first.

Trucker is another of the stray kittens from Kulin.

He started out skittish and slappy.

And now he’s playful and happy.

Then why are they in our car? 🤔

Because we do a LOT of volunteer transport (vet runs) for SAVA – Saving Avon Valley Animals

Why do some of the cats look sick? 🥺

Because they are RESCUED cats.

Rescued from all sorts of unhealthy or dangerous situations. ❤️‍🩹

What IS a vet run? ⤵️

It’s the days of the week where Colin transports SAVA foster cats and kittens to (and / or) from the vet.

Some days he has the morning ‘drop off’ run, which means waking up around 5am and picking up the cats from Northam around 6am.

(We live about 25 mins out of Northam).

Then driving them to the various veterinary partners, like Forestdale Veterinary Hospital.

(That’s a long drive!) 😬

Before going to work for the day.

Some days he has the afternoon ‘pick-up’ run, which means collecting the cats from the vet/s after work around 5pm and driving them back to SAVA in Northam.

The longest days are when he does both…

Drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon.

😮‍💨💤

Dropping off or picking up rescue cats isn’t a ‘drop and run’ job.

There is handover at both ends…

Checks, information sharing and medication / paperwork transfer.

It all takes time.

Every now and then, one of OUR foster cats is part of the vet run.

But usually when I post a vet-run reel, we have never seen the cats or kittens before.

As they are not the ones that we foster in our home.

Makes sense? 💁

In this reel, there are cats going to the vet for sterilisation.

And cats going to the vet for medical attention.

Whatever the reason, Colin volunteers a LOT of his time to driving rescue cats to their veterinary appointments.

I haven’t shared Trucker’s story yet.

He was trapped at the same time as the last 2 Bush Babies (Snugglepot and Cuddlepie).

A single tabby teen kitten…

fiesty, fearful and desperate for food.

He was ‘slap happy’ for awhile, not understanding the whole ‘people’ thing.

Then one day the penny dropped and he started to get with the program.

And that meant a complete 180…

He handed in his feral card and joined the Domestic Cat Brigade. 🫡

Trucker is now ready for vet work and adoption, so he’ll be headed to a registered rescue soon to find his forever people. 🤗

Zoe’s come a LONG way… 🙌

She’s the last of our Bentley ‘Z-Crew’

And I think her ‘feralishness’ topped even the magestic Zeb! 😄

Which is saying something lol.

Zoe’s not a lap cat by any means.

Probably never will be.

But she enjoys a gentle ear scritch these days…

On her terms of course.

She gets on with other cats.

Is great at ignoring active dogs lol.

And loves her wet food. 😋

Low maintenance, independent, clean and quiet.

Not to mention beautiful! 😍

Zoe (along with the 4 tabby Verandah Kittens) went to Cat Haven WA on Friday, to find their forever homes.

This cat is a BARREL! ðŸ˜

Smilie came into our care from SCAN a few years ago.

He’s old, he’s FIV and he’s gorgeous! 🤗

A hefty tank of a cat, built like a brick 💩 house (as Colin would say lol).

I think he was named ‘Smilie’ because, in the beginning, he was anything BUT.

In fact, he was ultra grumpy and felt really feral.

But those days are long gone. Smilie enjoys a gentle smooch session now.

Though he’s still an independent lad and not the ‘carry n cuddle’ variety.

Despite his age and FIV, he’s doing well so far. Such a soft coat these days!

He had a few mild sniffles as the weather changed a couple of weeks ago, but it didn’t develop further (though we ALWAYS take note, keep tabs and seek veterinary assistance).

Smilie is still enjoying his retirement years, eating more than he really should 🤫 and napping in the sunny spots. 😚

He’s not really what anyone would call ‘highly adoptable’.

Rather funky in fact. 💁

But that’s OK around here. We love the funky ones extra! 😍
