    Grumpus & his Honey at the vet… 💕

    As promised yesterday, I’m catching up on some missed vlogs.

    Did you know that cats get the flu?

    Just like people do! 💁

    Especially the ‘funky’ cats who may not have the strongest immune systems.

    Grumpus and Honey have genetics that are very interbred.

    And this can cause all sorts of health issues.

    BUT we were SO excited to see that Grumpus is FIV and FeLV free!!

    Mature boys are often FIV positive.

    So this is very good news for our big ‘mountain lion’ lad. 👏

    Caring for these cats is a huge commitment.

    We have 10 ‘hard to adopt’ SCAN cats.

    They have nowhere else to go as each one is funky in some form or fashion.

    We don’t dedicate our lives to these cats because we are rich, healthy or have spare time. 🥺

    On the contrary, we fully realise the need for networking and community support!

    I’m running late… 🏃💨💨💨

    I should have vlogged Grumpus and Honey’s flu AGES ago!

    But you know how life is… 😬

    So anyway, it’s time to play catch-up.

    I’m sure my phone was vibrating for awhile after that explosive sneeze! 😲

    And who knows where it all went lol 😫

    Grumpus is getting along in years now.

    And his friend, Honey, caught his flu as the weather changed.

    These two originally came (4 years ago) from a farm out of Narrogin.

    The colony was very inbred and the farm owners stepped right up and asked for assistance. 👌

    Many of the cats were sterilised and returned through SCAN.

    And we helped out by taking on these 2, who were both feral at the time.

    Cat Haven assisted us with spaying Honey.

    SIF and Heartlands assisted us with neutering Grumpus. 🫶

    They were both working type cats with no-where to go, so we put them to work on our property, keeping an eye on the rodent population. 🐀

    Grumpus is too old now to be outdoors stalking prey in the barn though.

    So he and Honey will have to retire from mousing.

    (Neither gets on with any other cats but each other, so they are a pair that we can’t separate without leaving them friendless)

    Anyway, next post is all about their vet visit.

    We’re still out looking for Poppy, the lost Chihuahua 🥺

    And enjoying the scenery with my best dog-lad, Taran 🤗

    Getting in a bit of recall training.

    And reinforcing the concept of personal space so he doesn’t break my leg again 😬 😂

    (He also broke his previous harness, so we need to get a new one)

    Its a LOT of walking on uneven ground for someone with a lump of titanium screwed to their bone 🙋

    But as we have no alternatives to accessing the river area, walking (with plenty of joint bracing) it must be.

    To those who do have access to the river from your properties or farms, please consider searching.

    Or allowing others to use that access to search. 🙏

    A 2 year old tiny chihuahua girl with a pink harness. 🩷

    Missing from Northam, last seen 11km out on Katrine Road and headed towards the river…

    But that was late April.

    So where has she been since then? 😳

    * If you live in Northam, please double check all sheds, under houses and shrubbery. ⚠️

    * If you live on Katrine, please search every square metre of your properties. ⚠️

    * And because a chihuahua can travel between around 3 to almost 5 kms a day 😲

    please also check if you live along Northam-Toodyay Road.

    In fact, ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE from Northam to Toodyay! ‼️

    If you are lucky and spot her…

    Please don’t call or chase her.

    She’s very, VERY timid.

    She’s FIV/FeLV ‘DIDN’T’!! 🤩

    She’s free of disease and we couldn’t be happier for her!! 🤗

    She does have some (mild) gingivitis and dental plague (that seems to run in the family unfortunately)…

    So she’ll need a dental at some point in the future.

    Hopefully we can convince her to ‘friendly-up’ in the next few months though. 🤞

    We’re stretched t-h-i-n with all these sterilisations! 😬

    Please cough up some help if you possibly can… 🙏

    We’re mostly self funded BUT it’s the dedication of those who STEP UP to support us that make the ends meet up. 🤝

    And makes it possible for us to survive the next week of rescue stresses.

    A Kondinin stray.

    Hungry and hopeful as he door dashed into houses for food. 🥺

    But feral is just a feeling…

    and now Bluey is feeling like laying around in bed for life. ðŸ˜
